Shiga Kogen: one ticket, 18 areas, days you can skip

18 areas and 45 lifts on one ticket, $61 (¥9,500) a day, days you can skip and a high base, about 2 h 55 from Tokyo.

Shiga Kogen suits skiers who want a lot of mountain on one ticket: 18 ski areas and 45 lifts and gondolas for $61 (¥9,500) an adult day in 2026-27, with the season running 5 Dec 2026 to 5 May 2027. It fits several days better than one, because multi-day tickets do not have to be used on consecutive days and Tokyo is about 2 h 55 away.

Dollar figures use about ¥155 to US$1 and are rounded; you pay in yen, so check the rate.

Is Shiga Kogen right for you?

Good for

  • Skipping a grey day: days on a multi-day ticket need not be consecutive.
  • Variety on one ticket: 18 areas and 45 lifts and gondolas, per the Shiga Kogen Tourism Association.
  • A long stay on a budget: five days cost $295 (¥45,500), about 31% under five Niseko peak days at $425 (¥65,500), both official.
  • A monkey day off the slopes: Jigokudani Snow Monkey Park is on the Yudanaka side.

Not for

  • Night skiing: none was found.
  • A short trip: a route database puts Shiga Kogen at about 2 h 55 from Tokyo, against about 2 h 10 to Nozawa Onsen or Madarao.
  • Easy links between areas: one guide reports flat and uphill spots between areas, for example Yakebi to Okushiga.
  • Ikon days at a specific area: which areas count is unsettled.
  • Clear gate rules: none were found.

The altitude is high. One area, Yokoteyama-Shibutoge, runs from a 1,705 m base to a 2,307 m summit, a 602 m drop, per a resort database. No vertical or run length is found for the whole system, so none is given. The same database shows typical base depths of about 200 to 220 cm in the areas it samples.

How do you get from Tokyo to Shiga Kogen?

Take the Hokuriku Shinkansen to Nagano (85 minutes), then an express bus to Ichinose (91 minutes): about 2 h 55 and $73 (¥11,250) one way. The other route goes via Yudanaka: the Nagano to Yudanaka train takes 48 minutes and a bus on to Yokoteyama 54 minutes, about 3 h 7 and $65 (¥10,110).

Both figures are route-database estimates, not operator timetables. One guide says a Japan Rail Pass covers the Hokuriku Shinkansen. Coverage of the buses and the Yudanaka train is not found, and guides say a pass does not cover the private Hakuba and Zao buses. More routes are in Tokyo to ski resorts.

What does a day cost in 2026-27?

An adult day is $61 (¥9,500) at the ticket window, and one key ticket works at all 18 areas. A price roundup lists $55 (¥8,500) online, a secondary figure. Child, senior, half-day and night prices are not found.

What do the rules say about leaving the piste?

No gate or backcountry rules are found for Shiga Kogen, which is not the same as leaving the course being allowed.
